The 6th Annual Coolabunia Classic Charolais Bull sale, held at Coolabunia on 16/08/2018, was conducted by selling agents AUSSIE LAND & LIVESTOCK, Kingaroy.  The Coolabunia Classic Bull Sale sold 38 Bulls to a solid but selective market despite seasonal conditions being very dry in most areas and cattle prices softening in recent weeks. The sale was an overall success with the average price slightly down from $5700 last year to this years $5540.  38/41 bulls sold this year against last year’s 41. Bulls sold through the Brisbane Valley, Goondiwindi, Tara, Dalby, Injune, Eidsvold as well as the local area.

Graham & Katrina Blanch, of Charnelle Charolais, Gatton, had another strong result this year selling 16 bulls from 16 offered to return a solid $5812 average. This included the top priced bull Lot 55 Charnelle Nugget (P)(R/F) who sold to many times repeat buyer Reade Radel, Sandstone Park, Injune for $10,000.  C. Nugget was the youngest bull in the catalogue and had the impressive figures at 17 months of 750 kgs, 133 EMA, 10/7 fat and 5.3 IMF%. Nugget was a JWX Silver Bullet son out of Pinay female.  Sharing second top price of $9500 was Lot 20 Charnelle Manager (P)(R/F), a Homozygous Polled son of Gallway (P)(FF), also purchased by Reade Radel.  Reade was the volume buyer on the day buying 4 Charnelle Bulls for a very good average of $8150.

River Run Charolais run by Tania, Len & Pat Haynes enjoyed an excellent sale selling their total draft of 12 bulls for a notable $6083 average. Their top two show bulls getting the sale off to a cracking start with Lot 3 River Run Monster (P/S) selling to Graham Francis, Toogoolawah for the second top money of $9500.  Monster’s outstanding figures at 20 months included, 960 kgs, 147 EMA, 10/8 fat and 4.7 IMF%.  Monster was placed 2nd in the strong 15 to 19 months at the Beef Australia Expo 2018.  His stable mate Lot 2 River Run Moonshine (P) who also enjoyed great success at Beef 2018, standing 1st in the 19 to 21 months class, gained equal third price when he was knocked down to Westcorp Holdings, Kingaroy for $8000.  Moonshine’s impressive figures at 23 months were 970 kgs, EMA 142, 13/11 fat and 5.8 IMF%.  Both the top River Run bulls were by their home grown Sire, River Run Joker (P).

Also selling for $8000 was Lot 9 Diamond L Melbourne Storm (P), an Ascot Juggernaut son from Greg & Tracy Lee’s draft, selling to long time supporter of the Classic, Timm Pastoral Company, Brisbane Valley.Vendors were: Silverwood Charolais, River Run Charolais, Diamond L Charolais & Charbrays & Charnelle Charolais.

Highlights include:

Gross: $210,500.   Average $5540
